An acoustic felt project brief should identify the room and problem, element dimensions, layout, mounting method, appearance, quantity, and required performance evidence. A panel’s appearance or thickness alone is insufficient to establish the result for an installed room.
Describe the problem and the space
Explain what you want to address and where it occurs. Share room dimensions, photos, a floor plan, and the proposed locations for felt elements. Identify whether the project is a wall layout, desk screen, ceiling element, or another installation.
Match the measurement to the acoustic goal
Sound absorption and airborne sound transmission loss are different measurements. ASTM C423 and ISO 354 address absorption in a reverberation room. ASTM E90 addresses laboratory sound transmission loss through building partitions and elements. An absorption result does not establish the isolation performance of a wall or room.
Identify whether the project concerns reverberation within a space or sound passing between spaces, then agree the required evidence for that goal.
Specify the element and layout
State dimensions, thickness, shape, color, edge appearance, and the number of elements. Identify openings, access needs, orientation, or services that affect the design. For repeat layouts, mark which dimensions are fixed and which can be reviewed.
Review installation as part of the specification
Identify the mounting surface and intended fixing approach. For a suspended element, provide the mounting concept and the project’s relevant safety requirements for review. Material selection and attachment requirements need to be assessed together.
Ask for evidence that matches the proposed construction
If an acoustic rating is required, specify the test method, target, and installed configuration to which it applies. Ask whether available evidence covers the proposed material, thickness, backing, and mounting arrangement. Do not assume evidence for one assembly applies to a different installation.
What should I compare in a test report?
| Report item | Compare with the project |
|---|---|
| Report identity | Laboratory, report number, test date, and the material or assembly identification. |
| Test and result | Test method and edition, reported metric, frequency results where relevant, and the required project target. |
| Tested construction | Material, thickness, dimensions, backing, and the number or area of tested elements. |
| Mounting | Support, fixing, air gap or suspension arrangement, and any difference from the intended installation. |
List configuration differences for review before treating a report as evidence for the proposed assembly.
Handle fire and project requirements explicitly
Share any mandatory fire-test documentation, material declaration, or approval requirement in the project brief. Request confirmation that the proposed construction has the required evidence before approval. This guide does not assign an acoustic or fire rating to Feltova products.
What should the sample review cover?
- Color and surface appearance under the intended lighting.
- Dimensions, edge finish, flatness, and orientation.
- Compatibility with the specified mounting approach.
- Drawing revision and material identification.
- Required documentation and agreed acceptance criteria.
Can a decorative sample confirm acoustic performance?
A sample can help assess appearance and fit. It does not replace the performance evidence or project evaluation required for the installed configuration.

Prepare a project inquiry
See acoustic felt for projects for the current application paths. Include layouts, sample needs, quantity, destination, and timing in your B2B project inquiry form. For undecided material formats, review felt materials and formats.
